Thanks, Mik! I love your insights. "No heart is ever entirely dead." We can reach into the darkness and touch each other and you have. Thank you.

How true that without heart a human being grows to become a mini Godzilla, a destructive force that flails around without positive direction and knows no other way to live. But you know, in those old Japanese 'zilla movies wasn't there was a little kid who somehow managed to subdue the monster? He accomplished through innocence and presence what all the tanks and fighter planes could not. And although the monster's war against the world went on as before, at least there was trust and friendship between the two of them. Similar motif in King Kong, no? Gentleness and beauty touched the hardened heart of the beast. This is also present in Frankenstein -- as the little girl by the water -- even though the monster accidentally destroyed the innocent one. (And this is the risk in relating to the monster -- you can become a sacrifice to the gesture of love.)

But the truth I like in these stories is that no heart is ever entirely dead and beyond contact, even the heart of a monster. How things play out in the world, whether the monster is reformed or not, lives or dies, is secondary to the fact that at least the potential for love and recognition can be found even in such darkness.

Nice posting, Darin.
